The department has established a legacy in Production Engineering since its inception in 1984 with an undergraduate (B.E.) program in Production Engineering. It is conducting post-graduate and doctoral courses in Mechanical Engineering and has recently started B.E. (Mechanical Engineering).

The Department currently offers B.E. (Production Engineering), B.E. (Mechanical Engineering), M.E. (Mechanical) with a specialization in CAD/CAM with Robotics and Ph.D. (Mechanical) programmes.

Production engineering is a professional practice of manufacturing technology and a production engineer typically has a wide knowledge of engineering practices and is aware of the management challenges related to production. The goal is to accomplish the manufacturing processes efficiently and economically. The curriculum of Production engineering encompasses the contents with engineering materials, casting technology, machining technology, fabrication, tool engineering, metrology, manufacturing systems, automation, and rapid manufacturing.

Mechanical engineering is a broad discipline that covers a wide range of fields in addition to physics and mathematics. It covers design, manufacturing, energy science, computational simulation, thermal and propulsion, sensors, and control, nano and micro-mechanics, mechatronics, solid and fluid mechanics, micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS), biomechanical engineering. Mechanical engineers are capable of working in a wide variety of industrial sectors and new technologies. They are employable in various industries such as automotive, aerospace, manufacturing, process industry, nuclear technology, biomedical, robotics, automation as well as IT sector as analysts, consultants, and managers.

State-of-the-art laboratories are available in the areas of Machining, Sheet metal working, Welding, Robotics, CAD/CAM, CNC Production grade machines, Automation, Modelling, Simulation, Ergonomics, Materials and Industrial Operations Management.

Reputed industries like Larsen &Toubro, Godrej and Boyce, Siemens, Mahindra and Mahindra, Mercedes Benz, General Mills, Tata Consultancy Services, Mazgaon Dock, Accenture, etc. employ our students.

Students after undergraduate course join abroad for higher studies in the best of the Universities like Cornell USA, Georgia Tech USA, Harvard, USA, Delft, Netherlands, KTH Sweden.

Professional Societies and Student Chapters in Mechanical and Production Engineering domain are ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers), SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) and IIIExCRCE (Indian Institution of Industrial Engineering). Institute also has many more interdisciplinary student chapters such as ACM, SME, E-CELL, NSS, TedxCRCE, IEEE, WIE, CSI, ITSA, P-Cell, Codelabs, Mozilla, Mavericks, Rotract, Debsoc, Literary Club.

We constantly motivate and support our students to participate in various technical competitions. Our students have performed very well in prestigious competitions related to ATVs, Go-Karts, Robotics, Aero, Quad-copter, Hackathons, Idea competitions at national and international level every year.

The department has facilities to conduct research in wide range of mechanical engineering areas that include Open Architecture CNC machines, Minimum Quantity Lubrication, Vision-based measurement systems, Manufacturing systems analysis, Rapid prototyping of injection moulds, advanced casting methods, Materials analysis and testing, Product design, High speed machining, CNC machining, Advanced machining and manufacturing methods, CAD/CAM, Computational methods in flow analysis, Automation and control, Automobiles and aerospace, Electric Vehicles, Composites, Thermals and Fluids, Industrial Engineering.
